THUNGA PRIMARY SCHOOL
Potential Addition to a Primary School in Malawi, Africa
The purpose is to make a comfortable learning space for the students of Thunga Malawi. With no running water or electricity, the focus is to provide as much natural light and ventilation as possible without causing any distractions for the students. The proposal is three classrooms in the form of a sun dial with curved open windows to provide light at just the right times of day. The narrow classrooms ensure that the students will be able to see the board clearly and to allow around 80 students comfortably. A berm and swale were also created to help divert the water around the buildings, down the sloped site, and into the small body of water West of the site. The design was made to be efficient, sustainable, and to ensure that the students at Thunga Primary School will get the best education they possibly can.
